My friend's dell dimension desktop was ravaged by spyware, viruses, etc. After being unable to remove them, we reinstalled windows xp (with another cd, since dell didn't provide one with the computer). The problem is that now the monitor is stuck on 640x480 (when it ran on the normal 1024x whatever before), and the modem won't work to connect to the cable internet connection now. I'm not sure if this is driver related or what? Someone help me out please.

    I'm betting it's driver related.

Regardless, you not only DOUBLE POSTED, but you are also using illegal software.

Is it illegal if the Dell has its own COA sticker??
As long as you use the product key that belongs to the dell, I don't think so.

The problem is though, the Windows XP cd that should have come with the Dell should have come with another disk with the system drivers on it.

You can download the drivers from Dell's website if you don't have the driver disk.

But, if you don't have a Windows XP COA for the Dell, it's piracy to install Windows XP on that machine.
