    Why not ask Dell?
    Or better yet, ask the RAM experts at:
    www.corsair.com
    or
    www.crucial.com

    I personally use crucial a lot. Put in your make and model # and it will tell you exactly what ram to get and how much your system will take.
    You can even buy the recommeded ram while you're there.
    That makes it very handy, INDEED!

    Cheers mate!

    PS: I just did a quick check at Crucial and found that you indeed have a laptop computer and that 1 gig is the maximum amount of memory you can have installed. Here's an excerpt from that page:

    * Maximum Memory: 1024MB
    * USB Support: 2.x Compliant
    * Standard Memory: 128 or 256MB removable
    * Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
    * Please ensure you have installed the latest BIOS update for your system before upgrading the memory.

    I hope that's helpful to you.

    Hacker183,
    Look in the little compartment on the bottom of your laptop, where the ram lives. You should have one stick in one socket and the other socket empty.

    If the installed ram is less than 512meg, then you should remove it and replace it with TWO 512meg sticks, one in each of the two sockets. That will give you the maximum that the mobo will take.
    One gig of ram will run XP fairly well......not at absolute peak performance, but as good as you're going to get in that computer.

    Then it's just a matter of shutting down all the background programs that you don't absolutely NEED running all the time to free up some ram and CPU time.

    Since XP is very HD intensive, keeping your HD free of errors and Defragmented is also critical to good performance.

    Running "Disk Cleanup" and "Defrag" once a week will go a long ways toward improving performance.

    Good Luck,
