Dell says do not install XP SP2?

Last September I installed SP2 for XP. About 3 weeks later I had to reinstall XP due to virus damage (different thread under virus forum).. In conversations with Dell tech support during reinstall, they told me NOT to install SP2, saying they felt there were still problems. I was so surprised I called back the next day just to adk the question, and got the same answer.

I have not reinstalled SP2 yet. Any opinions as to why Dell would take this position and whether I should I reinstall SP2?

 

I have had SP2 on my Dell from the get-go and have absolutely no probs. I've heard some horror stories about SP2, but no probs here.

Am currently running SP2 on 9 different Dells-- servers, desktops, laptop-- without incident.

 

Dell sent me a computer with XP SP2 already installed.

I haven't had any problems related to XP, yet.

I don't have a Dell, but I also was advised not to download the SP2 from where we bought my new computer. Well, I did it anyways, lol, cause I was curious.


No problems with the SP2 at all.

I check for AntiVirus and Firewall updates daily, run Adaware, Spybot, and full system virus scans on a regular basis.

 

I prepped my pc well before installing sp2 and have had no functionality issues. Many ppl have software on their pc's that aren't so compatible with the security sensitivity of sp2. It's a very significant security upgrade, for me it's a must have or very disirable update for Windows. But I didn't know Dell was yet providing the sp2 version...good to hear. Carry on...
