    Hello!
I have a Dell Latitude c840 that I found out by the trash. It was locked up with some security program so I installed my XP OS and it basically works well except for a few issues with the keyboard and speakers.
I have installed the correct audio drivers and have sound from the headphones but not the internal speakers.

I have researched this problem for days and the most likely culprit is the switch in the headphone jack being stuck. I tried to install IDT control panel but apparently it isn't going to work.

Does any one have any tips for getting the switch unstuck?

    Thanks!

You can always go the easy route with a USB sound card to hook up external speakers and/or a headphone to. These will also allow the use of an external microphone (Skype, etc.). This will be easier and cheaper than trying to tear the PC apart to repair or replace the headphone jack.

If you don't care about the microphone, a direct connect USB mini-speaker set should work as well:

    Hope this helps. :)
