    Running (not!) Win7x64, Intel-i7, 650GB SATA HDD, 4GB RAM

The as purchased (2011) SATA HDD has ceased to work - it spins and nothing else.

A loaned HDD works fine - all data, etc. is of course not mine. Swapping is repeatable - my HDD= dud and loaned HDD = OK.

What is the UK phone number for DELL support which would be most sensible to use? Is there any other technique to try first?

    Many thanks.
    Phil

You are out of warranty with Dell.

The best thing to do is get a new HDD, and clone the old one if you can. Otherwise you will need an .iso image from Digital River or the recovery software you should have created when you first purchased the PC. I highly recommend SSDs over HDDs.
