dell xps 400 (dual core) wont format

i load my xp disk in cause the stuff dell preinstalled like media center is a pain,, i threw in a small partition and laoded centos 4 (64 bit) suse 64 isnt up to par with the 32..anyways...i load my copy of xp pro, hit f12 select boot from cd rom, disk begins to load..i get examining something or other..that white type you always get..then just a black screen
