    Win 7 home premium.
    All of a sudden I have a file (desktop.ini) on my desktop? I right click toedit it and it has:

    [.ShellClassInfo]
    LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21769
    IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-183

    What is this? Ok to delete this?

    I have been trying out some old apps install/remove and etc. I assume one of these are the culprit.

    Hi,

    The file looks good. It is a system file and is usually hidden. My guess is that your program set the Folder Options to Show Hidden Files. (EDIT: Just so you know I believe Win7 will protect/recreate that file as needed so you can't really delete it even if you tried. You don't want to try as it is a valid and necessary SYSTEM file.)

    I always keep System and Hidden files hidden unless I need to check them--you might want to do the same. Go to any Explorer window click Organize at the top left>Select Folder and Search Options>under the View tab>Tick the box for "Do not show Hidden Files" and also tick "Hide Protected Operating System Files". Apply the change.
