Desktop calendar software

Am I the only person who uses a calendar to keep track of things? I don't see a listing in MajorGeeks for free desktop calendar software. I always check with MG to see if there is a category what I'm looking for. This time, I'd like a calendar similar to the one in Outlook. I know about online calendars, and I think Yahoo's is very good. But I worry about my IP going off (it does every so often) and leaving me not knowing what I'm supposed to do next. The calendar in the MS Works that came with my new laptop and Vista, is pretty good also. Free is best, of course, but not necessary. Any ideas?

    Hi frybo

There is this one in Rainlendar or if you DO have Outlook then you can add this add-on to pop the calendar on your desktop Outlook on Desktop does need you to have Outlook as it used the data from that calendar.

I second this choice because I've had Sunbird for over 4 years and am very happy with it! It's a complete stand alone software, totally independent from other browsers - even Firefox.

You folks certainly have given me some things to check out. I did know about Rainlendar and, as usual, perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I'm looking for a full-screen calendar that hopefully has day, week, month and year views. If it should also have an audible reminder, that would be fantastifc. I had a great little program called WinDates, but the creator/owner joined another firm and quit supporting it. It cost about $35. Ironically, when I first tried to check on replies to my post, my ISP was acting up and I couldn't get online!

I've downloaded Lightning because I have Thunderbird. I saw on the website that there are no Help files, but there are user forums. Being the novice I am, I kinda thought that since I needed TBird to use Lightning, that they are connected somehow. Like, when I open TBird, there would be a link to Lightning. Also, I kinda hoped that I could access Lightning from either my laptop or my desktop computer, both of which have TBird. Any of this possible?

Sunbird has full screen view and one can select: today, day, week, multiweek and month view. No full year view though AFAIK. Oh, it also has a task portion in the screen and of course an sound reminder which one can set from minutes up to a week in advance or custom. :) Don't forget to set your time zone if you choose Sunbird.

    Edit:
@frybo30: Oops, sorry, didn't see your last post. Don't know about Lightning though.

Would you know if it's OK to have both Sunbird and Lightning on a computer? I didn't see an audible alarm on Lightning, so if there's no synchronization between Thunderbird and Lightning, I might as well go with Sunbird. The screen shots show the two as being quite similar.

What about Windows Calendar, a feature that comes with Windows Vista? Have you looked at it?

    Tousafveteran: Yes, thanks.
To Halo, Oma and the Others: Lightning appears to be what I want. Weird thing is that I downloaded what I thought was Lightning to my laptop but it really was Sunbird. I think the download site was a bit confusing. I went back there and tried again and saw what had happened. This time I got it right, followed the directions after download and then found Lightning as an add-on to Thunderbird. All's well with that. Does anyone know if I download Lightning to my desktop computer, if it will somehow be sinchronized with the Lightning in the Thunderbird on my laptop? I won't bother if they won't be synchronized.

    Hi Frybo

Not likely to be the answer you where looking for, but as I am not a specialist with Lightning or many of the Mozilla products, do have many installed to play with but dont know all features and addons, but maybe a quick workaround for syncing is to export your calendar from the current used one and import it into the other. ( Files > Export Cal and File > Import Cal)

Only option I have thought of upto now, I know others are more conversant with Lightning than I ever will be, so they may have ideas too on syncing.
