I don't know where this question belongs. Most of the time, the clock on my computer is way off. Also, sometimes a "pop-up" appears on my desktop hours after I've logged off the internet that warns me about my clock displaying the wrong time and offers some kind of download. Is my crazy clock a sign of something seriously wrong with my PC? Can I fix it without downloading some Spyware or virus?

if it somehow isnt spyware it could be your cmos battery.

depends how old your computer is. most of the time the battery will out last the computer unless the battery was defective.

some times you will get a checksum error in post i believe if your battery is really low.

if you dont know what your cmos battery looks like its usually a coin cell 3v
    on the motherboard.

your probably better off checking for spyware first.

Agree with IrOnMaN, probably a battery on it's way out.

This program will easily synchronize your clock any time you want to.
The most simple program I've ever used.
Use it a couple of times a week, as my clock keeps pretty accurate time.

Besides the BIOS battery possibility, also if you are using XP, there is a related service called 'Windows Time' if it is disabled the time will stay behind gradually....a known Windows issue, hence the fact that MS created the Time Sync service.

Start > RUN > services.msc > OK check to see if above mentioned service's startup was set to "Automatic" and status displayed "Started".

Otherwise refer to the link AceJones posted earlier....
