Desktop Icon Won't Go Away!

Hello, forum.
Um... I recently uninstalled World of Warcraft, but I can't delete the Desktop icon. Whenever I try to, it always says, "Could not find this item... This is no longer located in C:\Usres\Public\Public Desktop"

It's seriosuly driving me insane, so any help is appreciated!

 

I just had a look and I can't find any place a desktop icon could be other than the the Public desktop or YourUserName desktop.

I don't have a folder called "Public Desktop" are you sure that is the message or could it be C:\Users\Public\Desktop?

Try right-clicking the shortcut and selecting Properties. Then click the General tab what does it list as Location?

If it says C:\Users\Public\Desktop as the location then go to C:\Users\Public then hit the Organize link at the top left of the Explorer window and select Folder and Search options. Then on the View tab check the box for Show Hidden Files and hit Apply button. That should make the Desktop folder visible. Go into Desktop. Do you see the shortcut for WOW there?

 

Um.. I got to the options, but that box is already checked..

 

I'll try next time I boot... Um.. Windows Vista.
