desktop icons are gone and taskbar too.

when i turn on the computer it boots ok but when my desk top comes up the icons NEVER show,and the start button and the toolbar also are not there either. All that is there is my background picture nothing else
i cannot access any programs but task mgr.
when i go into safe mode it is the same thing no icons nothing but the words safe mode in the corners.
the start button is not there so i cannot open "run" to do a search.

as for last known Good Configuration.
well i had other problems that were being fixed so SYSTEM RESTORE is disabled. (look for "I.E. not responding" thread )
i did try it anyways and nothing.
it seems to me that everything was deleted. i don't know how.
it might be a worm...

Right click on your mouse and it will give you a few choices. Try refresh. If that doesn't work try properties and under the effects tab see if hide icons is checked and uncheck it.

 

i tried this already and nothing happens. i even tried it with 3 different mouses and 10 reboots. some in safe mode..and nothing come up on the screen.. i also put a cd in the cd-rw the cd-rw spins but no music, no popup to play. nothing
i think it is time for me to buy a new OS disc and reinstall it.
or there is a BFH that would work to ( BFH= BIG Friendly Hammer )

 

try CTRL+ALT+Delete
and open the task manager

and create a new task under the applications tab
enter explorer in the run menu and click ok and see if that fixes it
explorer may not be running for some reason

 

ok that opened up my document window but still no icons or taskbar
i am not sure how to reset the icons

 

no more help needed it is all back to normal.
