Desktop icons gone.

OK, I've look at all the other threads, and none of them apply to my situation. I'm running Vista ultimate-64. A few weeks ago after coming home from work, all my Icons are gone. Background Pic still there, start menu still there, I can go to Start- Lego- desktop, and everything is still listed, but...just not there. I do have dual monitors, but 2 is not even PLUGGED in ATM, and it's not set to dual monitors. I've tried several things, turning down resolution, registry defrag, registry cleaning. Nothings helped. Any thought would be great. And always appreciate the help



One more thing... When I right click and try to add an item to my desktop, like a new folder, it isn't going to my desktop. But when I go to start-lego-desktop--- the newly created item is there. Makes me think my desktop is elsewhere. or something

 

Try this:

1. Right click an empty spot on the desktop, select View, and then check Show Desktop Icons if unchecked.

If it is already checked, do the below and repeat step 1.

Right Click the task bar and select the task manager.
Click the processes tab.
Click every instance of explorer.exe that you see to select it, and at the bottom of the window, select End Process.
To Restart Explorer, click on File at the top of the task manager, click on new task, and enter explorer.exe, click OK.
