On my new HP computer, Win7 64bit was installed. All of my desktop shortcuts worked until I installed Windows Office Standard 2007. After the installation, which was successful, the desktop icon shortcuts stopped working. I can right click and open them or do so in the start menu but cannot double click or single click on the icon to open the program. My icons on the taskbar still work. Help!!!:cry

Welcome to MG's!! I have moved your thread to the software forum for further assistance. In the mean time, if you right click an icon and choose properties, check the target! If it is wrong, correct it to the proper exe file.

When you right click the icon, most of which are shortcuts, under the "Shortcut" tab you will see the path to the executable file, you can always reestablish these, though I don't see why installing would corrupt these.

Click start, pick any program, notepad say. Right click on it, and you will see "Send to" and when you hover the cursor over "send to" one of the options is "Desktop (create shortcut). Try it for notepad and then go back to your desktop and double click on it. Does it open notepad?:wave:wave

I went to programs and send to and created a nnew shortcut but it did nt open either. I can open it with a right click and then click on open, but just clicking on the icon it does not work.

It sounds like the association for the .Lnk files is corrupted.

While this is easy to fix in XP, the fact you are running W7, 64 bit, puts it in a different category.

I suggest you contact Microsoft support. They are usually good about getting back.

I did find one fix and the link is posted below. But unless someone here can attest to this fix, I don't have 7, I would go with the MS support first.

Goto microsoft website, click on support.
