desktop icons

suddenly today ,when i click my desktop icons,nothing happens!i can still access the programs i want through the start menu,but im confused about why suddenly i cant use my desktop icons,this has never happened to me before,anybody have any ideas about what could be causing this?thank you

 

would this be just after you started up? have you tried waiting a few minutes and seeing if you still have the same problem? I had this problem when i had AVG installed, it wouldnt let me touch anything on the desktop until it completed loading. very irritating ill tell you!

what windows version are you using? Also, do you know if you're running ActiveDesktop? If so, try turning it off and seeing if you can use your icons now.

You haven't got a background that is a picture capture of your desktop, have you? Check the background via the Display Options.

Another possibility is double click is set too senstive so that you have to be like greased lightening to activate the application associated with the icon. Check the mouse settings as well via the Control Panel.

 

you might also have a dud mouse. I had this frustration for a long time..... i kept double clicking on things i didnt want to and turned out that the mouse was crap!

 

hey themanwithaplan i'm using windows 98 SE and i get the same problem every couple of weeks, if i reboot it works fine, i'm assuming you already tried this right?

 

Okay forgive me, i just looked at it again, you can click on start menu stuff fine.........so if the mouse was dud then you wqouldnt be able to click on ANYTHING
