Desktop Icons

This is a simple thing that's probably really obvious but hey!
On my desktop icons they have the blue backing to the text and I'm certain that this can be removed! I can change the colour of it but I just want to remove it. On my laptop, the desktop icons are just the icon with the white text but with no coloured mini background behind them, if you get me.
Any ways of removing this?
Both laptop and pc are xp.

thanks i found that unchecking the "lock to desktop" helped and solved the problem!
