I "inherited" a computer from my husband and am trying to clean it up. It has 2 "desktop ini" files on the actual desktop. When I went to delete one, it told me that the computer may not work properly if I continue. Can someone tell me where these files should reside (I'm sure not the desktop) and how to get the correct one there and how to delete the other one without harming the computer. Thanks in advance.

I got those and didn't want to see them. Here is how to make them disappear from your desktop.

Enabling the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) setting in Folder Options hides the two Desktop.ini files, as well. To access the Folder Options, open Windows Explorer, click Organize, click Folder and Search Options and select the View tab.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Do I need 2 of them?

They are just folder and icon preferences. You can delete them and they will rebuild, probably to just a single file.
