Desktop issue

Hi I'm having a problem with my desktop, after playing about with my display settings and initially having problems with my Nvidia graphics card (which has been resolved), I now find that my desktop displays as if it is in a folder, i.e. down the left hand side of the desktop is a grey section with folder tasks, other places and details, can anyone tell me how to return my desktop back to normal settings, I've tried everything in the display settings.

 

if i remember rightly can you right click on that folder and theres an option to close that folder

No can do General Lee, does'nt work, by the way my OS is Windows Pro XP, I tried today to open windows explorer via shortcut on my desktop and the window just jumped then nothing happened, I tried a search for windows explorer and nothing only shortcuts again, then I found the my computer icon with windows explorer underneath it so I clicked on this and the same just happened the screen jumped again, its as though it is pinned to the desktop somehow, theres not much else I can think of at the moment, any ideas

Dowloaded the said file, then the computer displayed a malicious script detected recommend delete press OK? should I have ignored this?

 

you must have some script blocking service running my norton asked me about it
but ive run it with no problems

Hi General Lee that worked a treat, can't thank you enough, by the way what actually happened to my desktop and windows explorer, what was that I did wrong, any idea.

as for what caused it well it must have been when you were playing around with your display settings but i cant tell you exactly what setting done it otherwise it might have been a lot easier to reverse it
