Desktop problem

    I cannot get shortcuts to downloaded programs or files to appear on my desktop.
    The only way round is to open the program, create a shortcut and drag it to the desktop
    - and sometimes they disappear from the desktop later.

    Hi cooperajn, what is your operating system? XP or Vista?

    I have XP, and I just right click, and then look for "send to" and click "create desktop shortcut" ... That has always worked for me...

    I'll bet your shortcuts disappear in XP because you did not turn off the Desktop Cleanup Wizard!

    I have this turned off because I do not want MS sweeping things off my desktop.

    Thanks for the replies. I should have said I run XP.

    When I right click on the desktop I have the option to "Run Desktop Wizard" - I presume that means that the Wizard is off?

    I can create a Desktop Shortcut, and it goes into my Desktop File - but it doesn't go on my Desktop!

    No, you can't assume it is off. The right click and run allows you to clear the desktop anytime rather than every 60 days when the program runs.

    Yes, I read the article.
    My PC is not set up for any desktop cleaning, and I don't have an Unused Shortcuts Folder.
