I am seeking to update my desktop. I have went to BestBuy and Staples for advice, and they seem to now only sell about 3 or 4 models. The staff there are not that helpful, except to encourage a protection plan....

I am not a power user, but would like a little firepower under the hood. I am seeking a budget of $400-$500.

I build this box about 7 years ago and I am getting blue screens. I would prefer an OEM box instead of building a new one.

    Anyone want to chime in?;)

(my apology to mods if this is in wrong forum)

    Hi BOOMM

Whats your current PC specs and what types of tasks do you wish to do with a new PC, general PC stuff like Office, Internet and odd games, or maybe higher end games (give examples of titles) or image editing eg. photoshop etc?

Are you ok with brands like ACER, DELL, HP etc or are there ones you shy away from, could just be personal preference?

Do you already have a monitor and dont need new?
Are there specific shops or online retailers we need to look at for your location as not worth me suggesting a DELL, HP, ACER pc thats only available in the UK?

Sadly some questions we need to ask before giving some helpful suggestions :)

But having sad that I think your in CA area and from Best Buy, these jumped out at me as ones to look at

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-in...lack/2151038.p?id=1219530045391&skuId=2151038 a little over your $500

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-in...lack/2152046.p?id=1219530041654&skuId=2152046 - more in line with your price range and a little left over out of $500 to possibly down the line to get a dedicated GPU card, but depends if you play mid to high end games

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-as...lack/2372026.p?id=1219539711783&skuId=2372026 - spec seems to show it using a slower 5200rpm HDD, 7200 rpm is better IMO

Once we have an idea of your uses for a desktop we can advise more.

Hi David, For some reason the board did not email me you had responded.

    Thank you for your imput.

I have a monitor with DVI and VGA outputs. It is a HP W2207 and will be sufficient. I am a light user with Websurfing and OpenOffice use. I don't play games on my system. I abuse Irfranview for scanning and paperless use, but that is a light use product anyway. I am ok with ACER, Dell and HP, but I am not crazy about what has become of Lenovo.

I had looked at the Dell i3 and there is an openbox available for $431.00, and this one on the shelf 35 miles away @$456.00..... This box bluescreened twice last week, so in stock may work.

    Hi BOOMM

That Dell i3 looks really good, specs are fine for what you need and it looks sexy! Dell keyboards are ok the wired mice leave a lot to be desired but those you can change for wireless if needed.
