desktop shutdown Problem

    Hello. I have a problem with my desktop when I shut it down it starts up again. Not every time but often. It started up on its own at 3am this morning. Its driving me mad. This is my second Lenovo in a month. I took the first one back because of this problem, The tech dept at curry's didn't know why so they just swapped it for a new one. So if anyone knows why, could you let me know.

    We had a bout of this back in '05 when Media Center PCs were launched. The TV guide updater was using the BIOS RTC to wake the computer at 3AM - weird, even a bit scary :eek

    Lenovo install enormous amounts of their own tools and utilities and I would bet it's one of those behind this. It's up to you but I removed all of that stuff from my new Lenovo and it didn't cause any issues at all.

    Put the computer on a surge suppressor and turn off the power. It will not turn on at 3am.

    There is something in the BIOS, wake on LAN. Some computers are configured to wake up, go out and get updates. Your's may have been set up this way. (I owned a computer that did this and it drove me nuts until I figured out what was going on. In the meantime, I cut the power to it so it would not turn on in the wee hours of the morn.)

    Earthling thank you. Very new to computers so had no idea what you were talking about lol. Tried to get into Bios and with this win8 it only gave me the option to restore to an earlier date, or something like that. but I looked around for hours and found a place in control panel, something management and unchecked on the realtek thingy for it not to connect on its own. That probably does not make sense but I know what I mean, Thanks again :)
