    Hello,

I think my problem may be motherboard related. Basically sometimes the computer randomly shuts off (already replaced PSU twice, so thats not it). So assuming it is the Mobo, what would be a good deal for a mobo/CPU/Memory(2g+)?

    Thank you in advance,

    -Wes

By the way my system specs are ABIT KD7 kt400 with an ATX case, if I need a new one I would love your input on that as well. Thanks in advance! :)

Sounds like a heat related problem at first glance - did you check what temperature you're running at? - and more importantly, is it a stable temp?

Could be caused by faulty RAM too, so don't go running off to buy a new board before you've checked those two possibilities out first

Heat make sense. Here is exactly what happens when it shuts off...

I hear a weird loud noise from inside the box, which will not go away until I remove the power (unpluging it). That said...

Heat is an issue, but I am not sure what to do about that. I'm not sure it's RAM because it's new RAM. I have older ram that worked fine (slower) that I can try.

If it is heat related, what should I do? See I think the cpu is either damaged or overheating too, but the problem is that its a fan on the mobo thats not working, not the cpu fan. If that makes sense. Again it's a Abit KD7 (non-raid) KT400 chipset. I have a great heatsink, but the CPU I'm worried about.

Anyway, suggestions? Thank you in advance!!!

There's usually a chipset fan too - and it does need to be working to keep the system cool. The CPU fan may be controlled by a so called 'smart fan' which will attempt to adjust to the systems needs. This may account for the loud noise you hear as the CPU fan attempts to compensate for the rising temperatures.

You can get replacement chipset fans, but it might be as you suspect - a motherboard problem, where the existing fan is possibly OK, but not getting power any more for some reason. They're cheap enough to buy, to rule out that possibility, but if a new fan fails too, then a new board looks likely

You can get specialist chipset coolers from overclocker type sites with alternative power connectors which might suffice, but they're a bit more expensive, although cheaper than a new board

    Something like this

Thank you, I'll try your suggestions. Wish me luck :)
