OK, is there anyway or put a older desktop CPU (1Ghz) into an older laptop ( say year 1999/2000)? since the CPU is slower than the laptop CPU. Is it a matter of physical fit, power consumption, size, or a combination of some of them? Thanks

Yes, but only in a very specific circumstance.

1st, the laptop board has to have a removable CPU itself--obviously
2nd, the laptop must have a chipset that supports that processor, and might need to be BIOS flashed.

as far as power consumption, desktop CPU's do use more power, so battery life will be a bit less--but older processors weren't as different as todays mobile vs desktop processors are, so it shouldnt be THAT big a problem.
