I was wondering does desktop weather (from the Weather Channel) slow down a computer considerably? Would you recommend having it on you computer?

I have been using it for two years and it does not cause any problems with my PC

I second musksnipe's choice on Weather Watcher.
It works for me, here in Cairns, and you can choose Fahrenheit or Celcius reporting.
It sits quietly down by the clock and you can set the update period as you wish.
I have mine set to hourly, for example.

It uses around 10k of RAM according to Process Explorer, but no CPU cycles as it sits there.
Quick to update, if you click on it, and then goes back to sleep in the corner. :D

I have used Weather Watcher for a long time, and I love it. I use it at home and at work that way I'm up to date on the latest alerts and things. I used to use the Weather Channel's Desktop Weather before I moved on over to Weather Watcher since I felt that it was running too slow. I hope this works good for you as it has me.

    Here's a different approach ....

go to www.wunderground.com and enter the zip code, city or country. Towards the bottom left of the resulting page is their "ad" for free weather stickers for your web page. When clicking on that choose the sticker you want and from the result copy/paste the html code into Notepad and save it as "anyname.htm".

Using Active Deskop (which I do) open a new desktop item pointing the "anyname.htm". Voila! You've have it. Clicking on the sticker will open up your browser for the forecast. Depending on the sticker size you can resize it so it won't take up a lot of desktop space. You would need to refresh (F5) your desktop to get the latest weather info.

    Like I said, it's different ;)
