So my girlfriend was watchin YouTube on my computer when she accidently spilled her drink ALL over the keyboard. In her haste to try to salvage the keyboard she took a cloth and started rubbing down all the keys. She pushed down the [Power] button, along with the sleep and wakeup button I'm sure, and the system promptly shuts down. I come over to see what's going on and overview this Situation. I try and start my computer back up but it won't boot; there is only a high pitched noise coming from the power supply. Great. I leave it on because the sound progressively got higher. After about 2-3 minutes of that it starts doing some weird thing where about every 1-2 seconds all the lights would blink and the fans would turn, but only in short bursts. At this point the power button and reset button are unresponsive so I flip the switch on the PS and call it a night. Today I try to start the comp up, same thing as last night. When I flip the power 'On' on the power supply, the hum starts. Power and Reset buttons still unresponsive. 2-3 min later Disco show with lights and fans. Power supply fan not spinning at all.

So my question is: Could the keyboard spill have somehow messed up my PS? Or was it just bad coincidence that when she powered down the comp via keyboard, it crapped out.

    Thanks in advance.

i have never heard of a keyboard spill ruining a computer. it sounds like bad timing
if you have another keyboard, swap it out to see if it is shorting the keyboard out, or try to remove the keyboard and boot up w/o it.
sounds like your psu has seen its end

Ya I haven't heard of it either which is why I brought the question up here. I've tried 2 other keyboards to no avail. Thanks for the quick response.

did you remove all plugs except the monitor and see if it boots up?

did you try to get into the bios screen?

When I tried with only the monitor plugged in, the lights and fans ticked on and then right off, then more humming from the PS. I can see a green light on the mobo on. CD drives won't open. Monitor still in a standby mode with orange light.

you might want to check your PSU. if you have a multimeter. to make sure the psu is getting the right volts into the system

    Hi Sean,

Sounds like it's time to unplug the keyboard. Does the PS sound go away and does the comp try to boot? Might be a heavy current draw to the KB due to the Spill. Try another Keyboard.

    Good Luck, Jim
