    Hey,

I have a massive headache from whatever has taken over my computer!
I have already gone through your "READ & RUN ME FIRST" tutorial, but I am still seeing pop ups and I still get the Deskwizz warning from Windows Defender. Most of the pop ups were from searchingbooth.com - I think these may be gone, but I have other pop ups still coming. Hopefully I have done everything in the tutorial right. Is Deskwizz what is making my desktop icons look strange (have a different background than the rest of the page?) I am attaching my log for HiJack This, Bitedefender, and Panda Active Scan.

    Thanks for the help!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Let's see if we can take care of your headache! ;)

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Please bring up Task Manager by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL and click the Processes tab. Look for the below process(es) and if found, End them:

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wallp2.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wallp2.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [VSL07.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\VSL07.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [1201.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\1201.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wallp2.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\VSL07.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\1201.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Hey, Thanks so much for the help...headache starting to fade...

It looks like things might be back to normal, but I'm not sure yet. My desktop is still messed up. The background behind the text of my desktop items is colored blue, not transparent like it usually is. Also, when my computer boots up, usually the desktop items load first, but now they are loading last, after all other system tray programs have initiated.

The only file that was in my system32 file was VSL07.exe. I couldn't find the other two. I attached my new log. Thanks again for everything. :)

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Also use Windows Explorer to delete the below files (if found)
    C:\Windows\system32\adwerkz.dll
    C:\Windows\newfrn.exe
    C:\Windows\svrrun.exe
    C:\Windows\v1201.exe
    C:\Windows\vcmnet11.exe
    C:\Windows\wallpap.exe

Also you should right click on your Desktop and select Properties. Then click the Desktop tab and then the Customize Desktop button. Now in the next window that comes up click the Web tab. Make sure at the bottom that Lock desktop items is unchecked. Then in the Web pages: box delete all items but My Current Home Page and make sure it is unchecked too. Then click OK. Apply. OK.

Let me know how this goes! If you are still having problems, please run the below procedure and attach the requested log.

You are a GENIUS!! Thank you so much. Everything appears to be working as normal. I was getting pretty bummed that nothing was working, then when I went to desktop properties and then the web tab, and deleted an item I found there that had something to do with "MSN game zone" and had some guys name, my desktop instantly went back to normal. Thanks chaslang...you rock!!

You're welcome!. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
