hello everyone. I am new to this so please bare with me. I have been working on this problem for the past week. When I start my dell desktop, the icons do not load, just the wall paper, and whenever I try to get in the internet i get the error message "internet explorer has encountered a problem and must close".

I can only open certain programs using task manager in safe mode and have deleted all tmp & tif file. when I do get these programs open they only stay open long enough to let me know they opened and then they shut down. If i can't get this problem figured out, I will have to format my drive. I am running xp.

    Can anyone help me?:

Hello! Welcome to Majorgeeks! I am the master at system recovery. I will help you with this problem.
Open up Task Manager then click New Task... then type in explorer
This should have helped. If it didn't, let me know.

I would also reccomend downloading and installing Firefox. It is a better web browser.

thanks aDawg32, but its still a no go. When I open task manager and typed in explorer, I still got the same error message. " Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close....."

When I tried to submit it to microsoft it did not go thru. I clicked to see what the error signature was and it is: Event Type InPageError P1 :c000009c P2 :00000003

    Hi

Have you done any scans for malware (virus and trojans etc) even with your own default antivirus and updated one at that? if any are found then possible cause could be malware related and we have steps for clearing your PC here in our malware section. If you run the guide then start a new thread in malware and attach the requested logs for the malware experts to review.

Also in normal mode do you get any error messages when using applications apart from the internet explorer one, if so what and in full please?
