:confused Hello Everyone!! I am new to this site, but think I will Love it,because I love the computer and internet!!!!!!!!!!!

Could someone please help me with this problem or issue I have regarding this message I receive when I boot up. It goes as windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

I am really at my wits end as to how to resolve this issue without having to reformat my drive and reinstalling windows. And Lord only know I really don't want to, plus I would lose all I have which is quite a few files. And if I would have had any idea this was going to happen I would have at least tried to back them up

Please if someone could help me with this and a simpler way I'd be forever grateful. I have read about it and I have tried some things, but to no avail and the other stuff to be hones I don't understand it all. Thanks so much, wka233

I have tried Repairing and not luck, tried to get in Safe Mode, no luck!! I have tried to enter commands, but don't understand all that logo, values, etc.

If anyone could help by telling me word for word how to install that obsolete or corrupted file Ntoskrnl.exe file I would be so so grateful, Thanks in advance, wka

Thanks Yank for replying back to my issue. Yes I do have a network I use a Linksys Router, tht's how I'm able to write and all is with my laptop computer. The older desktop is the one that has Windows 2000 Professional and my laptop has Windows XP. If there's a way I can transfer tht file to the other I'd gladly try it, I really don't want to lose everything on that computer unless it's absolutely necessary. Thanks again for anyone's help, wka:)

Thanks:confused: :) again for all your help and or suggestions. I am about to give up and reformatt the hard drive, not sure what to do. I sure hate once again to lose all my files, etc." Been There Done That Before". I'm not sure how to transfer that file to the other computer, not really sure of the right steps or procedure. I may wait a little longer before I finally decide. Thanks again in advance, wka233

Do you have a boot disk/CD? At the very least you could use this to get your computer running and copy your files off before reformating.

Dins, Thanks again for replying and yes I do have the Operating Reinstallation Disk and the Dell Resource Disk, but that one doesn't help at all and I've tried the Operating one quite a few times and to not avail. Sure hoping to find a solution. Thanks again for your help and to anyone else who can help too. Thanks, wka233:) :D

You should be able to download and make your own boot disk from the internet. Make sure you feel comfortable with the site. There might be a recommendation on this site to look for. At least you could boot DOS and copy your files to a safe place before reformatting.

Hello I am new to this sight, But I had the very same problem you have had. Twice now. reading in one of my pc mags. I found out that I had to totally do a fresh install of win 2000 before I could install my xp again. This being because xp is a ntfs system and 2000 is based on fats32 and converting over to ntfs. Anywho after I ajusted my bios and put in the win. 2000 disk, it went into reinstalling everything. I did as I was told and repartioned and formated the hd drive. Then after I got my pc up and running okay I updated all the drivers and installed Xp again. I hope this works and I'm not to Late.
