Destop shorcut

Hi, new here and need a little help. When I go to a web page and try to create a desktop shortcut, when I go to desktop, I see it but cannot open it. It blinks twice and then does not open. All my previous destop icons open, but not the new ones i try to create from ineternet explorer 6. they just don't open. Any help would be appreciated. I have windows ME

Hey this is a great forum. Posted message three days ago and not one response. Just wondering why? Perhaps not too much knowledge on what my question regarding desktop icons not opening is available. Does anyone know?

Bazza is right, we have very few problems that slip thru. Glad you got it back up front again.

I am not an expert but for starters I would run the programs listed below, make sure that you get the updates for Ad-Aware SE and Spybot after you install them.

it could also be that internet explorer is not your main browser? i don't know why it wouldn't open, i save alot of stuff like that, and them move them to folders. anyway, just throwing something out there. i take it you've rebooted since your initial post(s)? - sos

 

thanks for your replies. I have rebooted many times. I do have spyware stuff as well as spybot and adaware. They find no problems. It is really strange that if I go to a certain web page and then ask it to add shorcut to desktop, I do get the "internet explorer icon" the E sign. But then I click on the icon and all it does is blink and you cannot open it. Yet if it is in my favorite folder I have no problem getting it to open. Very strange indeed. I guess I will have to live without that shorcut. But thanks for your replies
