Determining Comp Specs with Win98

It's been so long since I have used Win98

Could someone please tell me what to run to give me a report on what the computer specs are ??... And I need to determine what sort of RAM is in the comp without opening it.... Isn't there something under RUN that does this???

Obviously you want a diagnostics tool. There is a copy of EVEREST on this site but not sure if it is compatible with 98. Anyway check in the diagnostics section for the different apps and I am sure you will find one that will suit your OS and satisfy your queries. This f....ing comp is playing up and wont let me paste the link but go to the diagnostics sections and type in EVEREST in the search window and it will give you the download link. It seems fine for your OS. Free program that will provide invaluable info on your system and its specs.

 

Belarc Advisor will run on W98. Also, some of the older Bios's will tell you what kind of RAM is installed in a machine. The only effective way of knowing what RAM is installed is going to be cracking the case open and looking.

 

Unfortunately Belarc only tells you how much memory there is, not what sort.

 

Forgot about that. Otherwise good for asset management.

So if this comp (it's not mine but a friends) has SDRAM in it, shouldn't it maybe say so when it starts up??

Why attach a photo of the stick? All you need is the Manu. and Model# of the 'puter to find out. Otherwise if self-built, mboard type. If running W98, either PC100/133, or PC2100.

 

Fresh Diagnose will run on 98, and will tell you what kind of memory you've got. I just tested, since 98 is what I'm running.

Also you can get good info on your comp from pcwizard. (I believe it will run on 98).

What's wrong with EVEREST, it works on 98?

 

Nothing the first reply mentions it, but we weren't sure if it worked with 98, mainly because we didn't think to check.

 

Nothing at all wrong with Everest, or PCwizard, or any other program. However,
Everest is out of the freeware business, so, unless you have the program already, you are sc---ed.

Why don't you try and help him instead of starting arguments over what is always best?
There are many good programs. Everyone has their own opinion on what they like. You ask 10 people about a particular program and you will get 20 different answers because each one has their own preferances. Now leave it at that, because it gives the person choices. He may like one over the other.
