My 3200 Xp running XP home with the K7N2 MSI motherboard and FX5200 graphics card is still screwing up. No more serial drive by the way just a regular one. IDE is that right?
I formatted a couple of weeks ago reloaded everything and it still wasn't right. Switched graphic cards at one point and that really crashed the computer. Tried to format and start again and the hard drive wouldn't even format. " Hard drive may be bad" So I took it back to where I bought it and the guy gave me a new one. Reloaded everything, the latest drivers ect... Last night I even played Wolfinstein and it didn't lock up. This morning there's a message that says my computer has just recovered from a major crash do I want to send an error report or something along those lines. The error is caused by a device driver. How in the world do I go about fixing this thing????

On edit: WE were working on a heat problem before or what we thought was a heat problem. My temps now are CPU 107 F System 96 F

I went through all four views clicked every plus sign and have no yellow exclamation points, no red X's and no blue i's. I also clicked show all hidden files.
I clicked all kinds of stuff looking every where and everything says no conflicts.
I saved the responce to my error reporting but of course lost it with the last crash. It definitly stated that I had a device driver that was causing the problem.
    What's next?

Was just playing Wolfinstein and right in the middle of it it shut down, a blue screen full of white writing appeared for a tenth of a second and the computer rebooted. The only thing I've ever been able to do on this machine with out trouble is run Seti. There's got to be a fix somewhere

It took awhile to get to the page the computer kept locking up. I then kicked the SOB about ten feet down the hall and it didn't freeze up anymore. Hmmm maybe I've found the cure.
THis thing is really getting on my nerves. I've got four computers that I've built and they are all doing fine. This one is the only one with all new parts and it's been a POS help help help help help help help help help help help help

Have you tryed this repair yet
Try on the boot select RECOVERY CONSOLE. After selecting the OS enter password or touch enter if you don't have one.
type chkdsk /r and let it repair. Space between k and /.

your graphic's card is fanless rite?
when you updated all drivers XP etc did you update your graphic card driver, and if so did you have any problems playing Wolfinstein before installing new driver.

  16. mgrist

Yes the graphics card is fanless, however I have five fans in the case two of which blow directly on the graphics card.
I updated all drivers before I even loaded the game, I think. Sorry
I can't even get into the computer now, started that is. I'm going to try again and see what happens,I'll advise.

    Thanks for all your help!

I can't even get into anything now. It's been the same thing three times in a row only this time when ever I try to get into safe mode or recovery the computer just reboots. I guess I'll format again, not load any drivers and see what happens from there. If that doesn't work I'm going to see how far I can throw it down the drive way. I'm not the best at patience but I'm not bad, I have none left right now. How do you scream on a computer

  18. mgrist

Well I did something I got it running anyway. the only thing running is Boinc that's the only program on there.
There is one driver listed in add remove programs and thats it, nothing else there.
I also took the FX5200 out and replaced it with the FX 4600 (I think it Is) that was in my other computer. I'll leave it like it is until I see whats it's going to do.

Well that didn't take long, I flipped back to it and it was locked up

It's gotta be the card's and their drivers.Go back to your Device Manager and see if there is a problemshowing.

There's yellow explanation marks beside all SATA entry's but I don't have SATA anymore. I loaded a graphics driver and within 5 minutes it froze up again, I'm trying to get it started again an am going to delete the the nvidia driver that is installed and see what happens.

How would you like a program that cleans up your old drivers. ;)

  23. mgrist

    mgrist Private Weapons

I just clicked back over to it and it's froze up again.
Wouldn't formatting clean up the drivers?
    Yes to your question.

I'm downloading it now on my main machine. I don't know if I can keep the other running long enough to use it.
I guess I'm going to have to put the 3200 in the shop or trash it. Never has been right, never! I was always betting the graphics card was bad but the card is now in this machine and it's doing fine.
Thanks again for all your help
