Device driver

As I load Windows 2000 Professional on my laptop, I get an error message which reads, 'Windows-Unable to Load Device Driver

\SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\aswMon.SYS device driver could not be loaded. Error Status was 0xc0000034'. Should I just go online and search for this driver and download it??

The bit of research I've done tells me that aswMon.sys is a plug-in for Avast! AntiVirus or related to it.... it stands for Avast SoftWare MONitor and it's some type of virus filter... If you had Avast and removed it, it probably didn't uninstall completely; if you're still running it, try removing it and reloading the latest version. Download it for free from MajorGeeks....

Try uninstalling then reinstall it your avast! anti virus.
Or update to the latest version.

 

When I go to Control Panel to add/remove programs, I get a message saying ' Add/Remove programs An unexpected error occurred. Class not registered. res://appwiz.cpl/listbox.htc Line 225' and then an ok button. THen when i click on ok, the add /remove programs box shows 'There are no programs installed on this computer, but when i scroll down, I can see the various programs. I cannot see Avast listed in there. The change and remove buttons for all the other programs are greyed out.

 

I would install a registry cleaner - repair utility.
