I have searched high and low to try to fix this myself. I'm at my wits end!
My problem first started when I got a virus and ended up reinstalling windows XP. Everything is fine except now my cd burner won't work or play dvds.
It says device not enabled. There is a red X on it. I have tried uninstalling it and rebooting. My computer will detect it but it is still not enabled. I tried to enable it and I get a message saying I can't. HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4320B is what listed on the device manager. There is also no letter for the drive which used to be E and I can't assign a letter to it because it's not there where I have to do it. What else should I do? Someone please help.

Hi, is the device recognised in the bios, ( it will show you on bootup what to press to enter setup, look for ide devices). If so try resetting the bios and see if this works.

Have you gone to the manufacturers site to see if they have drivers for it? Or checked with windows update to see if they have one?

Some manufacturers provide downloadable driver utilities that will install the driver for your device.

Oh BTW Welcome to the forums!!;)
