devices and printers

Multimedia devices the second group in devices and printers lists 4 towers on my desktop;

1-lap with my wife's first name
2-lap with my wife's first name
3- lap with a carat
4- 4th tower with my email address.

Why are there two with my wife's name? is this a duplication to be removed or does it serve a purpose?

Your situation is unclear to me. What device are you looking at? PC, router? I'm assuming some kind of network connection. What do you mean my lap (assuming laptop) with a carat?

 

Sorry to be non specific.
Win 8 control panel>devices and printers, I see,under multimedia devices, 4 towers as explained in my previous post.
One tower says lap with a carat or triangle like you are going to play something. It is referring to the laptop I guess.
Another says my email address with the word desktop.
The last 2 say my wife's name with the word lap.
The last three have a musical symbol next to them.

I am trying to figure out if I have the right icons and also if I should remove one of the 2 duplicates.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that. All that means is that those are all the devices on your network (usually currently on, or have been on at some point since you turned on your PC) that have multimedia capabilities. Seeing 2 icons for your wife's laptop means on her laptop 2 programs can send or stream media to other devices. Some software that do this are media players, like windows media player, and windows media center and media streamers via DLNA, such as PS3 media server and TVersity.

For windows 8, you will also see an icon for every user on the device.
