    Hi,

I am trying to access the work network from home and am not having much luck. I have a dg814 and have been told that i can access the network through Windows Remote desktop. (yes the computer being connected to is Windows XP Pro SP2 and yes it is enabled in the control panel, the remote access computer is also XP Pro with SP2).
Now someone told me to port foward the port 3389 and "it'll be right mate!!". NOT SO! or at least not the way I am enabling the port foward.

We have a fixed address with our isp at work.

Is there any traps? OR can someone give me a step by step (for stupid people) breakdown of setting the port foward of port 3389 to an internal ip (eg, 192.168.***.***) so that when i connect it will go straight to that workstation, I can enter my username and password and hey presto!

At the moment when I try to connect I use the IP gained from whatismyip.com. I have also tried ***.***.*.*:3389 to no avail. (Maybe I am doing this step wrong???)

At the moment, i get the following message
"The client could not connect to the remote computer.

Remote connections might not be enabled or the computermight be too busy to accept new connections.
It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection.

Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator."

Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated as soon there will be spare parts for a NetGear DG814 Router for sale! (only small parts but!)
    Andrew

Thanks for the reply, I have set the port fowarding in the router now and things are working ok.
