Hello, im currently working on an old compaq running windows xp. I recently removed a "fake antivirus" software from it but now when it tries to connect (wireless or wired) all its says is "acquiring ip configuration". I did some research and found it the DHCP client wont start because of "error 1075", I have tried many things (yes this includes checking the dependencies and the three that are supposed to be there are there) I have also tried resetting the IP stack and winsock. As for just doing a destructive recovery as a last resort, the user doesnt have the recovery cd and I cant seem to access the hidden partition for it (tried f10, f11, and ctrl+f11). Any ideas to help solve this issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Hi,

Have you tried System Restore? If not, try that - ask the user when this started happening, roll the computer back to the earliest restore point before that.

If they don't know, roll it back to the earliest restore available.

If that doesn't work, contact HP tech support and ask about obtaining a recovery CD. It will probably cost some money, but it should be less than buying a new copy of Windows.

Back up their data, boot from the recovery CD, and proceed from there.

    Regards,

    dj
