Diablo 2 Video Resolution

Please, please, please, PLEASE! tell me there is a hack to increase the resolution from 800x600 to something higher. I've looked high and low, and found nothing substantial on it.

800x600 is terribly fuzzy and large on my 19 in. LCD.

Its been years since I played D2, it may have always been that fuzzy.

But its too large.

 

Play with the in game video settings, it will not look that bad. Move the brightness all the way left and contrast all the way right. Now reverse it. Try different shadow settings.
I run FSAAx4 which screws up the text but I know what each text will say so it does not matter.
D2 is all about gameplay, not pretty pictures. No other game is so flexible. Got ten minutes, play a little. Got 4 hours, play a lot. Try to play 10 minutes in most RPG's and you will not even find a team. The textures in D2 are made for the 800x600 rez, so a hack will not help. The FSAA and settings make the graphics pretty good for such an old game.

 

very simple answer

open the desktop shortcut and add to Target: -w

this produces game in a 800x600 window on any depth desktop
and will greatly improve the rendering

GAMMA adjust is not supported in windows mode

As for higher resolution rendering
every graphic tile and animation
would have to be redone with a higher than default Pixel density
and there's the problem with field of view and ranged attacks
based on field of view

the game was not intended to be to be FULL 3D engine
the target entry hardware was GLI 1.1
a Nvidia MX 400 or MX 440 was all that was necessary to play

the game is basically a 2D engine has a 3D iso rendering and does not
support a lot of features found in other 2D/3D iso games

but the game is fully playable by PC and MAC users
with low hardware entry

the design was to make the GAME enjoyable
chess with rocks is still chess

 

Yeah... Diablo 2 graphics have not aged well... do it in windowed mode, and it will improve immensely. Oh, and no, it was not always this fuzzy, because you didn't have that good a monitor back then

I see Xeander already posted the -w solution. It'll make it easier on the eyes, but pretty, Diablo 2 never was.
