dial up questions

a quick question about dial up conections ( they suck i know )
why do i loose my conection sometims after 20 min. of being on line?
Is there any way to stay connected?
i will be switching to cable soon, in about 9 months.

 

Might be your ISP, might be the line being crappy, might be your modem. Who knows!

- Get new modem drivers
- make sure you're not runing on a gigantic phone extension cord
- get a better ISP

 

Some ISPs limit your connection time, particularly smaller local providers. If the connection is idle, sometimes it'll disconnect (even if you haven't checked that option). But mostly, it's because dialup sucks.

 

This looks like the "Disconnect when idle" setting which defaults to 20 mins.
See Internet Properties/Connections press the Settings... button for your connection then the Advanced button and you should see the attached dialog. Change the value or uncheck it.

that is not the problem.
i think the problem is is what goldfish said.
my ISP is netzero only ten bucks a month .
it might also be a shatty modem.
also it does not happen all the time, but sometimes we get a pop up that says GTW V.92 voicemodem busy. it says answer or ignor. i close it out that works if i catch it other times i just get disconnected.
if i could figure out how to add a picture i would post it to show you all. i'd have to wait for it to pop up again to do so
