    Hello,
For the past few days I have had a problem trying to get rid of this dialer.generic, but have had no success. Norton AV 2006 keeps finding this dialer all the time, and always at "C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\..." The file has changed names a few times here. No matter how many times that Norton says that it has removed this dialer, it keeps popping up over and over. I am attaching the requested logs with bitdefender and panda activescan. Please help me get rid of this dialer, and what I should do next. Thanks!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

You forgot to attach your HijackThis log as requested in step 7 of the READ ME.

While you wait for me to work up cleaning steps after I get your HJT log, you can do the below.

Do you know what the below folder is for?
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Scanner

    Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Viewpoint Media Player <--- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME
Warez 3.0 <--- Infected and/or bundled with malware

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Then install the current version of FireFox from: Mozilla Firefox

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

Now locate the below file and delete it:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Yazzle1162OinUninstaller.exe

Now locate the below folders and delete if found:
    C:\Program Files\VideosCodec
    C:\Program Files\Warez

Then attach a new log from ShowNew!

sorry about that, here is the HJT log file needed from Step 7. As for "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Scanner", I don't know what it is or what it does.. but it puzzles me why it is on my system lol. I will follow the rest of your instructions in the meantime. Thanks again!

Goto Add/Remove Programs and uninstall OIN if found!

Why didn't you delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Yazzle1162OinUninstaller.exe as requested in my last message?

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {171BBE30-AE23-8F8A-0641-006A26029BFF} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\forfzkd.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4E85972A-366A-6173-CD85-D9A3AD07DB43} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA} - http://dm.screensavers.com/dm/installers/si/1/sinstaller.cab
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Scanner <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Yazzle1162OinUninstaller.exe

    Now run Ccleaner.

    Now reboot in normal mode

Now delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Local Settings\Temp

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. ShowNew
    2. HJT
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Everything seems to be running much better now! Thank you so much!! I haven't had any dialer pop-ups from Norton for about 3 days now, and my internet connection seems to be as fast as ever without any problems as before. I am sorry about before with "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Yazzle1162OinUninstaller.exe"... I couldn't find this file before.. and I still can't find it even after enabling ALL of my files to be shown and not hidden using the tutorial. I did uninstall that OIN program through control panel->Add/remove programs. I ran a search for that file and found it in "C:\Windows\Prefetch\Yazzle11620inUninstaller.exe-1ED8E2D1.pf". I will leave that file alone unless I hear otherwise to remove it. As far as everything with this system, all seems well. Thank you so much again! You are awesome and keep up the excellent work!

    You're welcome!

It's gone now so don't worry about it anymore. However, yes you must delete this one: C:\Windows\Prefetch\Yazzle11620inUninstaller.exe-1ED8E2D1.pf

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    4. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    7. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
