Did Samsung Take Over Seagate Or Vice Versa?

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5555 that came with a 2TB 5400 RPM "Seagate Backup" hard drive — at least "Seagate Backup" is what showed in programs that reported disk information.

I wasn't satisfied with the speed of said hard drive and pulled it so I could replace it with a Samsung 850 EVO Solid State Drive.

I looked at the label on the hard drive and was surprised to see the name SAMSUNG in the top left but the word "Momentus" on the right which I recognize as being a Seagate model name.

    Any insights?

    Thanks Eldon.

Reading through that, it seems more like a co-operative venture between the two and that Press Release is from 2011. I didn't realize it happened that long ago. I now know where Seagate gets it's nand flash for it's hybrid drives.

I wonder if Western Digital gets it's SSDs for its duo drives from Samsung.
