    Just had to share this.

DID YOU KNOW THIS? I DIDN'T.
(I got this in an email-author unknown)

Did you know that 47 countries have re-established their embassies in Iraq?

Did you know that the Iraqi government employs 1.2 million Iraqi people?

Did you know that 3100 schools have been renovated, 364 schools are under rehabilitation, 263 schools are now under construction and 38 new schools have been built in Iraq?

Did you know that Iraq's higher educational structure consists of 20 Universities, 46 institutes or colleges and 4 research centers?

Did you know that 25 Iraq students departed for the United States in January 2004 for the re-established Fulbright program?

Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational? They have five 100-foot
patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels and a naval infantry regiment.

Did you know that Iraq's Air Force consists of three operation squadrons,
nine reconnaissance and three US C-130 transport aircraft which operate day and
night, and will soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and four Bell jet rangers?

Did you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion?

Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000 fully trained
    and equipped police officers?

Did you know that there are 5 Police Academies in Iraq that produce
over 3500 new officers each 8 weeks?

Did you know there are more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq? They include 364 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations,
22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities and 69 electrical facilities.

Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of five have received
the first two series of polio vaccinations?

Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school by mid October?

Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq and phone use has gone up 158%?

Did you know that Iraq has an independent media that consists of 75 radio stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations?

Did you know that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004
and that the Iraqi economy is BOOMING?

Did you know that two candidates in the Iraqi presidential election had
    a televised debate recently?

    OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW!

    WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW?

    OUR MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US!

Because a Bush-hating media and left wing liberals would rather see terrorism prevail in the world rather than exercise some
    common sense and patriotism.

The lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves only one purpose.

It undermines the world's perception of the United States and our soldiers.

All of these facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense website
    and many other independent sources.

Like most anonymous spam emails, it's not altogether true, although at least this one isn't altogether false. ;)

did you know students were beaten by iraqi police for having long hair and wearing jeans? The lack of reporting both sides of the story makes for bad journalism, but a good story ;) I odn't see why they have to concentrate on the positive aspects of life though..

Maybe by concentrating on the positive side FOR A CHANGE instead of the continous bad news aimed at making the president look bad...and perhaps make the people realize that more good is being done than harm...this entire thing could serve to unify people and bring about an end to the unrest and cruelty. Another positive thing is the thousands and thousands of innocent people that aren`t being tortured and murdered there anymore.

no, now it's what, merely hundreds? I accept that the media does need to concentrate more on the positive aspects of what has occurred, but only to the extent that they provide balanced reporting. I couldn't give a damn whether the media makes the pres lok bad or not, he's there, and if his policies work, then they will speak for him. If they don't, then maybe the criticism is justified, hmm?

The fact is....what relatively few that are being killed there now is being done by thier own people . The government-sponsored torture and genocide are over. The fact that the media so conveniently overlooks this is disgusting to me....obviously biased...and for the most part the liberal media has kept this sort of agenda for years....fair and unbiased my a**

Can you clarify what you typed here? What's the problem with concentrating on the positive? Why is that wrong? I agree that both sides of an issue need to be reported, but your example is a bit lame considering the topic of the post you responded to - by the way, I hadn't heard that about the students - can you provide me with the source - were any students raped, tortured, or killed? . . . I'm interested in the issue of positive vs. negative coverage, and how the World Wide Web has become a major factor in the way we get input in world events. I appreciate any response . . .

I'd use another URL to underscore my point. I especially liked the comments said to be by Ahmed Kharrufa, a citizen of Iraq. Gee . . . You want some cheese with that whine? The whole article is about - "Yes it is better" but then a littany of why "it's not better." I dunno - check out Kharrufa's comments and see what you think. Against the backdrop of what reality was for the average Iraqi before the war I think Kharrufa needs some cheese.

Any conservative worth his salt would take your opinion in consideration. I`m a republican...though a moderate one...and I`d discuss this topic with anyone sensible enough to talk with an open mind...and I do know rabid right-wingers...and even more rabid leftists...and count them all among my friends.
