I apologize if this has already been covered but I can only search for so long before I just go :foolish :cry :banghead

What is the difference between the clients currently offered on the FAH page? I've gone to the FAQ page and a video is there describing other clients but none that are actually available. My options are:

    System tray client
    Console client only

The video talks about a text version and a screen saver version, but that doesn't address anything that they have currently offered. If it matters I'm installing on a Win7 32bit laptop, but feel free to add any other info, i.e. others may do a search and find this thread.

    Thanks

The difference is the System Tray client runs in the lower right hand corner of the tray with an icon that you can control various aspects of the folding process. It runs as a process rather than a service.
The console version runs in a text box and is aimed more at either running as a service at boot or running from a text (command line) type of environment.
What kind of hardware are you running now? Dual core, quad core or discrete video card.
Knowing the hardware and OS will point you in the correct direction as to what client is the best to use. Also, do you want to fold in a leisurely manner or hardcore 24/7 (Science or Points Per Day)? Some new clients have come out to benefit quad core machines but to get the benefit of points you need to fold pretty regularly. (This also helps the science with quicker return of results.)

I've got a 32 bit laptop. Not looking to run it 24/7. I was just looking for a simplified definition of the different clients. This is my 3rd computer that'll be folding.

It's less about the points and more about just being productive.

Get the Systray client then, easy to setup and basically a no-brainer to maintain with long completion dates since you won't be folding 24/7 and you'll meet the deadlines. If you're going to go on battery for any reason, then kill the client as that pushes ones CPU to the top thereby killing battery time. Happy folding!:)

Oh, you may as well get a passkey for all your rigs. As I don't know what else you're running, this may be a moot point but perhaps helpful for readers that have quads as Stanford is forcing the new beta client users this way and one may as well get in on the ground floor and not worry about it when the time comes.
