 I picked up a almost ancient computer for my son(to play games on).
There seems to be something wrong with the drivers(to my belief). It currently has a ATI Rage IIC driver on it. With the original harddrive it had a catalyst from ATI that gave it both 2d + 3d capabilities. Yet he did something to the hard drive which resultedin the blank screen. From there i bought a new hard drive and upgraded the OS to XP home. Now i just have a basic ATI rage IIC driver(no catalyst) that only has 2d capabilities( no 3d available in Directx)

    From what i can gather
    634mhz celeron processor
    320 mb ram
XP home edition version 2002 Service pack 2
    3D rage IIC AGP(version 5.1.2535.0)

IF using the program i get a "the display driver is not compatible with the display adapter" message *severe error*

Thought one of the old rage pro drivers may have worked!

I just re-read your original post and this at first didnt stick out to me ( sorry ) but having a quick search around for XP drivers for the Rage IIC, comes up with the same answer, their are non ( that I have come across yet, if their were ATi would have them listed ) apart from the ones on the XP cd which dont have 3d hardware support built in as you know, you could try windows update and see if they list a newer one than whats supplied on the cd, but I would not be too hopeful.

The reason you are having problems is that there are drivers for the 9x versions of windows, in which I would guess the original HD before the update had at least Win95/98/ME on it? now with the update to XP that card is only supported in a very limited and basic way.

One option if you wish to continue playing games on that PC is to revert back to the 9x windows version that was on it originally.

Once installed click Computer > Summary and post the top three lines under the Heading Motherboard.... hopefully that will give us some idea.

your mobo http://www.tyan.com/products/html/trinity371.html just in case you are curious, which may also help in the future as it lists at the top driver updates and manuals.

Also have to ask what games do you want your son to be playing as the latest games are not really going to work well or at all, as the GFX card specs will be low?

It has an AGP 2.0 slot and a max of 2x speed so a card of that spec is needed, best I've found that should be fine is something from this page http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=list&SubCategory=48&bop=and which is 2x/4x AGP as your AGP slot will only use AGP 2x its IMO not worth paying for a higher spec'd card, but I would go with a 64MB Ram version.

This one kinda sticks out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127128

maybe some of the gamers here will have other suggestions?

TBH... you may struggle playing those games on that pc even with a new compatible GFX 3d card, the min specs you can see below...... ( dont want you spending cash if its not going to work.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814139151 hits the spec of card but the CPU is underpowered as you'll notice a 1.2ghz CPU is needed.

Maybe best to revert to Win98 as the company suggest its the best OS to play the game on.

I havnt checked into the other Game but I would sumise that it woudl be similar.
