Dim Screen?

How do I find out which one of these is the problem (Inverter, Backlight, Graphic Chip). I have a Compaq Presario M2000 (m2401xt) Laptop.

I have used a flashlight on the screen and I can see what is on the screen

I have gone to the control panel and made sure that the display was set on default and rebooted

I have pushed the F4 button and it still remains dim.

Where is the best place to get what I need?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In my experience, I've seen poor wire crimps on the three-pin connector which plugs into this tiny circuit board. There is also the possibility of a transistor failure on this board or even a cold solder joint on the male pins on the connector. If it's under warranty, then you should probably return it for repair. The circuit board is not complicated and is usually quite inexpensive. Many computer repair shops can give you a reasonable quote for this kind work, but only if you tell them what's wrong, so that you appear knowledgeable.

You can see your image, so your graphic chip and driver are working. As I suspect you have more than one internal CCFT (fluorescent tube) it is very unlikely that 2 or more would fail at the same time. That leaves the inverter circuit or its connectors. A loose connector or loose wire ( result of a bump or drop) is possible. However, the inverter board is your prime suspect.

Hi Joe, I have the same laptop and the same problem, I've replaced the inverter, (bought on ebay) but it didn't help, I can still see a very dim image. I can get a great image on external monitor. How did you fix yours?
