Yeah I know this pc is very old but it's been great and at this point it's my 7 year olds PC so all I want to do is let him be able to play his games.

We just upgraded this computer from ME to XP and now the disk drives aren't being recognized so we can't get any of his games to work

My guess is the driver files is an issue. But I am clueless. I tried using hardware wizard but no luck.

The disk drive is a says WDC WD400B-75AUA1 is the hardward not recognized. Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1313)(WDM).

We also have this as the only hardwired machine in the house so my biggest issue is we just got a wireless N router and I can't install it on the machine as it won't recognize the floppies to upgrade to the wireless N router (we have 5 machines all attempting to be online at the same time and the newest xbox live added yesterday). So the upgrade to N is my most important concern.

While we all have laptops, I'm not very technical. I will say that I've never gotten a bug or virus that I couldn't fix with my basic knowledge and at a few times with the help of majorgeeks so I guess I'm not completely brain dead.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

I just found my original documentation:

It says that for my D drive
12x Max Variable DVD ROM Drive (I have written in Samsung DVD-Rom SD-612)

    For my E drive:
    8x/4x/32x CD-RW (I have written in SONY CRX140E)

I'm sure much more information is needed so please ask.

If you did an "upgrade" from ME to XP then you may have boot sector problems. If however you did a "new" installation of XP you shouldn't have any problems. We need some system specs to know what you have in that computer. RAM, CPU speed, etc. Brand and model of computer if it was store bought etc.

    Hi

This could be a filter issue in the hardware devices for CDROMs and media, so try this advice HERE and delete the upper and lower filters, note that you "may" need to re-install any CD burning applications if they dont list your CD drive once the filters have been deleted.

40GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)

I did an upgrade to XP as i know I did not format the drive but I've been told i should have formatted and did a fresh install but I didn't want to lose all the software and drivers which I don't think really ended up mattering as my HP Photosmart 1215 no longer work nor does the scanner I have and the drivers, so I don't think it would've mattered in the long run....

Anything else. And if so, how do I find it out?

Hope you all had a very merry and will have a Happy

I did the second as I wasn't sure what was meant by deleting the upper and lower filters but it didn't do anything.

Just went in and here is what it says when I try to install device:

The drivers for this device are NOT INSTALLED (code 28).

I uninstalled the disk drive w/ no change.

Itry to install and get "Cannot install device.. The specified service does not exist as an installed service." ????

"This behavior occurs because Windows Sound System Compatible (WDM) drivers are deleted during the upgrade to Windows XP. "

This is what error code 28 says on windows. For XP they say they deleted the drivers as the WDM drivers can't be used.

Is there any go around possible? I can't buy anymore stuff for this old pc...

This got my disk drive working but the sound is still not working!!!! No clue as to why it worked and I still didn't switch back to 300 as I'll wait till sound works again.

Any clue as to why sound no longer works when you upgrade XP?

I believe this happened previously and I reverted back to get my sound working but Id rather keep the upgrades and get sound working again.

    HELP! Please.
