    Hello Everybody.

I have a baffling issue with my computer at the moment. I shall step through what happens and whatnot, and will attach reports from Everest and DXDIAG in other posts, just so that this post doesn't become even more longwinded.

I had purchased this system a year ago, with a view to play games, I believe it is pretty powerful, well powerful enough to handle games for a while. I initially had no problems what so ever, as the games I played were Direct X 8 games- such as Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic, Football Manager 2006 and older games such as Fallout, Baldurs Gate and Arcanum. All of these worked without a hitch.

However, when I tried to play some of the newer games, they didn't work. I believe the first instance of this was Battlefields 2. I thought, oh well - this game doesn't work, tried to find some fixes, couldn't do so. But I noticed a pattern after a time - NBA LIVE 2006, Need For Speed Most Wanted, Fable, Dungeon Siege 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Sensible Soccer 2006, Galactic Civillisations 2 etc.

It appears that something is wrong with Direct 3d, when I initialise these games. I had thought for a while that my video card was no good. However, I have confirmed that it is infact not a lemon - I had downloaded the Windows Vista Advisor. It said that my card wouldnt be acceptable for one of the settings as it lacked 32 bit pixel shading and the Graphics Adapter did not support Direct X 9.0c. HOWEVER! My fathers did. So I swapped the video cards around - and guess what? His card no longer supported DirectX 9.0c - and the one I had worked for his. Hmmmm

I then thought perhaps it was the onboard video, but with the gigabyte model motherboards, there is no option to turn it off in bios, and when an AGP card is placed on the motherboard, it automatically disables. EVEREST Supports this.

The most bemusing part of this whole scenerio, is according to dxdiag - everything is fine. According to Everest - everything looks fine (Well to me anyway).

I have reformatted the computer, reinstalled drivers, tried drivers for all parts of the PC, disabled on board sound etc -but nothing works. I've used Driver Cleaner etc.

I might add also - OpenGL works. Doom 3 runs fine on my computer.

Also - In the NVIDIA Control for Advanced 3d Settings, no picture comes up.

If anyone would be able to shed some light into this, it would be greatly appreciated. It is driving me mad. I'm going to swap computers with my dad (just swap hard drives so we retain the data) but it shouldn't really have to come to this - I'll attach my system specs in the next post to show you.

Any help would be appreciated. It's extremely frustrating :(

    Thanks in Advance.

    Here is the EVEREST report:

Please Note: The second CD Drive is actually a virtual drive from the program Daemon.

Sorry for bumping this guys, but the games ran with the Windows Vista 2 Beta. I've uninstalled it now though as some of my other important programs would not work.
