Looked at the recommended threads and couldnt find the answer. I have recently reinstalled Win 7. I have an HD6970, with driver installed as well as Catalyst and even OpenCL . When I open Winamp and try to use the visualizer (one of my favorite things) it tells me that direct X 9 is not present. I have direct X 11, and verified both 32 and 64 bit versions using dxdiag. My copy of Win 7 has been authenticated . I know that Direct X 11 also contains earlier versions, and didn't have this problem before I reinstalled Win 7. What's going on here ? Im still googling . . . . .

Ok I installed Shift 2, which also installed DX 11 (again) and now my winamp visualizations work. I guess that means I have 2 copies of DX 11 .

I guess Shift 2 also installed parts of DX9 that aren't contained within the default W7 install of DX11.

To ensure you have all of DX9 covered, install it from here.

My install of DX11, I thought, would have come from the ATI Catalyst disk I installed to go with my HD 6970 . I didn't realize win 7 also installs DX11-if so, then I had DX11 installed 3 times !! Whatever happened, it's working correctly now , thanks for your input, though, that link may come in handy !
