I've been having trouble for several months playing VCD's that used to play just fine. Originally thought C-Dilla installed with Turbotax was the culprite. All of that has been uninstalled. the only thing I can think of that took place about the same time was upgrading to Direct X 9.0a. Would anything there make older VCD's not play? If so, since Direct X is not supported for uninstall, can I install an older version, say 8.0a over 9.0a to get back to where I was?

Don't know if DX9 caused the problem don't think it would....
But in-stalling 8 over 9 would cause problems for sure..Not a good idea:)

Are you using XP? If so, boot to the XP cd, and choose a repair install on the XP you have. You might have to call M$, and reactivate, and then use windows update to get SP1, and all the extras,, but things should return to normal after that.

DX 9 most likely isn't the problem.
