I used DirectCD on my old computer with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 and I thought it was a great idea. My new computer uses Windows XP and has Sonic Record-Now and it doesn't do DirectCD recording.

I want to know if I can remove Sonic and put Roxio on or if Sonic has connections with other programs or if the DirectCD function is harmful to the CD drive or anything like that.

    thanks

which one was direct cd? i know when i had windows me (on this computer) i had ez cd creator, and direct cd. was direct cd the one you could just drag and drop in "my computer", etc.? anyway, i have nero on this computer now, and i wanted my older software as i was used to it. well, apparently (sp), it isn't compatible with windows xp (at least my version). you can always try it, but it might not work properly? just make sure you have your current software so you can reinstall it (if you remove it). if you create a restoration point, i'm not sure if it will put that software back if you remove it? what won't this newer software do? - sos

If you write CD with multisections then trying to finish it. and do as you think it 's OK.

DirectCD is Packet Writing software, which in easy terms allows you to format a CDRW or DVDRW and use them just like you would a floppy drive, they allow you to dragNdrop and erase data without loosing cd space.. unlike multisession in which you loose space each time you write a new session.

As for DirectCD harming your drive then NO, it wont ( I have used the newer version of DirectCD, "Drag to Disk" for a few years now with no ill effects ) BUT what you will have to do ist to go to Roxio ( as they took over Adaptec ) and hunt down the updates to EZCD5 as its not 100% compatible with XP... some peeps are fine with it some have a nightmare of a time.

EZCD6 or 7 are fine with XP, so is Nero6 and Nero also has packet writing software available in a product called InCD.

as mentioned above do a System Restore point before installing EZCD & DirectCD and before using them goto Roxio and update.

Thanks to eveyone for your responses. Sorry I don't log on every day.
I have it now that Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 may not work with Windows XP so I am probably better to stay with Sonic Record Now which came with the Computer.

I just loved being able to record onto CD's without going through the burning process so if I want Direct CD I will have to get updates or Easy CD Creator 6 - 7. There is one other thing though. Does Sonic 'Record Now' have connections to other programs or Windows that will leave me unable to do something else?

    thanks

Sonic Record Now is not part of the Windows Operating System. The Record Now software is included as part of a marketing agreement between your computer manufacturer and Sonic. I used to have it but have since gone to Nero 6.
