DirectSound output v2.43 9d0 error

  1. Bad DirectSound drive. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration.
    Error code: 88780078

    i just got this message today. havent even made any changes to my PC.
    message came from winamp. i also tried reinstalling winamp but that didnt work.
    i dont get ANY sound from any program either.

    Which Operating System and service pack?

    Do you have latest Soundcard Drivers and DirectX drivers?

    Also in WinAmp change the sound output, Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > and choose a different listed one.

    If yo udont get sound from any other program be that Windows or WMP, then re-install your Soundcard drivers.
     
  3. its set to the right output on winamp.
    ive also tried sfc /scannow
    how can i reinstall these drivers?

    Is the PC in question a home build or OEM as in DELL, HP etc?


    If OEM, what model and version as then you can search the support and downloads section of the makers website for drivers.

    If Home build, is the sound, onboard or a PCI card, if onboard, what is your motherboards make and version.. If the PCI card sound, then what make and model as the makers will have drivers.

    You can use Everest to find all of the information you need to achieve this.
     
  5. i did some trouble shooting and at the control pannel in sounds and audio devices, i tried to change some settings and i couldnt do anything, everything was grayed out. im guessing i need to install some drivers to get it to work, how do i do this?

    Sorry thought by your posts, in the Welcome forum you knew about PCs?

    Everest is this http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html install and run and it will tell you all about your PCs hardware.....
    Basically what we would be after is is your PC an OEM.. HP , DELL etc, if so what model version, IF home build what is your Motherboard or PCI audio card?

    Does the laptop have a model name? ie. Satelite M55 S135 the model name which should be on the case somewhere will direct us or you to the downloads for that laptop at Toshiba http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp

    their are a few various AC97 audio drivers/version by different makers so wise to get right one first time.

    i installed it and everything but still no go.

    Have you uninstalled WinAmp.. if not do so as that seemed to be the app that caused this issue.

    You get no sound from any application at all?

    Did you delete the sound driver from Device Manager first then install the one listed for your laptop as in the Windows XP Sound Driver for Crystal CS4299 , before installing the sound driver I would re-install the Intel Chipset Drivers also listed at Toshiba's page for your laptop, then install the sound driver again.

    When installing the sound driver are their any error messages, if so what?

    also two questions I asked in post #2 are outstanding, Which OS and have you the latest DirectX or even re-installed DirectX again?
     
  13. XP 2002 and i have all the latest directX updates.
    i uninstalled winamp but im still not getting any sound from any application at all.
    i installed the driver and it told me to reboot and i did and it still didnt work.

    Did you do the Chipset Drivers before re-installing the Sounds drivers?

    In device manager, are there any yellow ! marks by any item if so what.... if an item has a yellow ! mark, in its properties what error code does it have?

    You have uninstalled WinAmp?


    Last option I can think of is this open Windows Media Player > Tools > Options > Devices > Speakers > Properties > Choose your sound card in "Audio device to use" press Apply > OK > OK restart
     
  17. in sound and audio devices properties is says no audio devices.
    i tried what you said but it didnt work.
    i uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it but that didnt work either.
    i DID uninstall winamp.
    i dont see how that could make a difference if the problem is with any music i try to play.

    No way of knowing if a setting or adjustment WinAmp made was the culprit in your loss of sound.. was the reasoning.


    Kinda at a loss on what to advise now, apart from as you say the Sound Card driver is installed and enabled in Device Manager ( now red xs or yellow ! marks evident ) is to delete the sound driver > reboot and re-install the driver.

  20. wow, im really suprised none of you techies could have figured this out!
    i had to post at ccleaner.com and they got it right away!
    turns out windows audio was disabled in the services.
