    Hi people,
I recently used the directx9 uninstaller from this site as I was facing a missing quartz.dll issue in my windows xp sp 2 OS. But, unfortunately, I removed it without going to the safe mode & now my directx is refusing to upgrade to a new version. What do I do?? As far as possible, I want to avoid reinstalling my OS.

    PLEASE HELP !!!

    Thanks in advance,
    Robi.

The file quartz.dll, is used by windows when working with DirectX. If quartz.dll is unavailable, windows may not function correctly.

quartz.dll is flagged as a system process and does not appear to be a security risk. However, removing DirectShow Runtime Library may adversly impact your system.

The Spy Bot database currently registers quartz.dll to Microsoft.

This is part of Microsoft Windows.

As such, we can probably get a copy off the Windows installation disk by booting into recovery console. Please see this Microsoft KB titled, Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console for instructions on how to use the recovery console.

quartz.dll can be found in c:\windows\system32. Simply expand a good copy from disc into this directory, and see if this helps your situation.
